King Conan's Coffers: Aquilonian Golden Luna

OF THAT EPOCH known by the Nemedian chroniclers as the Pre-Cataclysmic Age, little is known except the latter part, and that is veiled in the mists of legendry. The kingdoms of the Hyborians: Aquilonia, Nemedia, Brythunia, Hyperborea, Koth, Ophir, Argos, Corinthia, and one known as the Border Kingdom- dominate the western world. Zamora lies to the east on the inland Vilayet Sea, and Zingara to the southwest. Far to the south sleeps Stygia, untouched by foreign invasion.

Into this world strides CONAN, a barbarian stripling of cold Cimmeria who travels far and wide fighting and wenching his way across the world for decades, eventually finding himself crowned king of storied Aquilonia.

And so it came to pass that after long years of adventuring across the realms of the Hyborian age, the barbarian known as Conan of Cimmeria, and hailed as Amra The Lion by his fanatical followers, became King of Aquilonia, greatest of all the kingdoms of those days.

And as time passed the crown did come to weigh heavily upon him, for his greatest joy was in adventure and he cared little for taxes, except for when he could steal them... or roads, except for when they were beneath his feet. And there came a day when a great dark mood came upon him, as it was it was wont to do, and it so chanced that in this time his councillors came before him saying

Your Majesty, the people need new coins to replace those of the hated tyrant whom you so mercifully slew by your own hand.

And, at first, Conan liked not the idea of his own likeness upon a symbol of the craven merchant class. But his councillors continued:

For your people do not know you well, and they crave to look upon the face of the one who has saved them from the evil tyrant Numedides.

And understanding the need for leadership, reluctantly, Conan agreed to let his image be made upon the large golden "Luna" coin of the kingdom of Aquilonia, subject only to his demand that his face be not smiling nor made beautiful, and that his sigil Amra the Lion be displayed proudly upon the other side of the coin, and to be made even more prominent.

So has it been spoken, and so has it been done! The inscriptions were made in the tongue of High Aquilonian Euskaran and inscribed in the Phapian script that was most commonly used in that region in those days, though modern folk may find them difficult.
